The First Day of the Week
January 7, 2010
In the sermon this past Sunday we spent some time reflecting on how we can more deliberately spend our Lord’s Day. We thought about how we could rest in Christ and work to bring the rest of the Kingdom to those who don’t know Christ. My friend Thabiti Anyabwile offered a good reflection a few weeks back on how we spend our Lord’s Day. Here’s part of what he said:
Far too often we approach Sunday as the day we rest from the week gone by rather than the day of first fruits, of beginning with the Lord and shaping our hearts and souls for the week ahead. When that happens, God gets the leftovers and the world gets the best part of us.
He concluded with some great questions. Here’s one in particular that struck me:
How would we benefit if we lived for the Lord’s Day rather than living for the weekend?
I would commend his full post to you, and you can read it here.
