He Gave Himself for Me

May 18, 2010

This past Sunday our congregation studied Galatians 2:11-21 in our morning service.  It was a joy to meditate for a few moments on the short phrase in verse 20, “who loved me and gave himself for me.”  I exhorted the congregation to remember that these words are not merely Paul’s words; they are the words of all of those who have placed their faith in Christ.  As we walk by faith, we must always keep our Savior’s love in view.  Here’s just a little quote to encourage further meditation on our Savior’s love:

“Had the Son of God been forced into this world — driven to His death on the cross — our amazement at His love would not have been nearly as grand. But when we become acquainted with His willingness, that He voluntarily surrendered Himself as a substitutionary sacrifice, we are overwhelmed: amazed at the intensity and infinite capacity of such love.”
