Lyrical Theology
June 3, 2010
It may surprise you to know that I enjoy listening to hip hop and rap every once in a while, if it’s edifying. Below you’ll find a song by Shai Linne called “Atonement Q & A” in which he defines some key theological concepts surrounding the doctrine of the atonement. As I mentioned in a recent sermon, the doctrine of substitutionary atonement is at the heart of the gospel, and therefore it deserves our careful attention. In this song, Shai Linne defines well the theological term atonement. He defines it so well, in fact, that you may even want to memorize his definition in the song. The song is cleverly cast in a conversation following a particular pattern — discussing the need for the atonement, the event of the atonement, and the application of the benefits of the atonement. I’d encourage you to listen and be edified.
