Read, Pray, Praise, and Rejoice in God from Psalm 4
June 24, 2010
I’m looking forward to hearing my friend, Noah Braymen, preach from Psalm 4 this coming Sunday. His sermon is entitled “Turning to God in Trials.” If you haven’t read the psalm, I’d encourage you to do so, and to consider how the character of the Lord is described. Ask yourself, “What does Psalm 4 teach me about God?” Investigate what God has done for the psalmist. Once you’ve done that, then worship God from the psalm. In prayer, give God praise for who he is, thank him for what he has done and will do, even in your own life. Even consider using the last verse of the psalm as a springboard for further praise and comfort. Verse 8 says,
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
How can you use that last verse as a springboard for further praise and comfort? Well consider praising and thanking God for who he uniquely is. Pray, “You alone, O Lord _____.” Pray, “You alone, O Lord make me _____.” Pray, “You alone, O Lord can _____.” Here are just a few ways I filled in the blank this morning.
You alone, O Lord, are perfectly righteous.
You alone, O Lord, are perfectly holy.
You alone, O Lord, are perfectly merciful.
You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety (right from verse 8).
You alone, O Lord, make me desire mercy.
You alone, O Lord, make me righteous in your sight.
You alone, O Lord, can guard me from sin today.
You alone, O Lord, can give me eternal comfort.
You alone, O Lord, can give me joy in Christ.
Read, pray, praise, and rejoice in God from Psalm 4 today.
